India's Vodafone Idea reported a bigger-than-expected second-quarter loss on Wednesday, weighed down by a shrinking user base.

Revenue increased by 2.01% YoY & loss decreased by 17.88% YoY, loss at ₹7175.9 crore and revenue at ₹10932.2 crore.

Vodafone Idea, the debt-laden telecom company, narrowed its consolidated net loss in Q2 to Rs 7,176 crore from Rs 8,737 crore last year. The telco had reported a net loss of Rs 6,432 crore in the previous quarter.

Vodafone Idea shares declined 2.47 per cent to hit a low of Rs 7.48 on BSE, taking their one-month fall to 17 per cent.  The stock has lost 56 per cent of its market value in 2024 so far.

Cash EBITDA excluding the impact of Ind AS 116 increased to ₹2,320 Crore, the highest since the merger, up 10% quarter on quarter.

Vodafone Idea has narrowed its losses to Rs 7176 crore in the September quarter, compared with Rs 8738 crore in the same quarter of last year.

The company earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the quarter increased to Rs 4,550 crore in the second quarter.
