Over a month’s worth of rain, hurricane-force wind gusts and feet of mountain snow are coming to parts of the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.

A powerful winter storm hit the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands in Washington.

Though that type of weather system doesn’t often develop near Washington, the last one that impacted the Pacific Northwest was earlier this year in January. Bomb cyclones are weather systems that form when the storm’s central pressure drops more than 24 millibars in 24 hours.

A powerful storm was clobbering Washington state on Wednesday, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands while wreaking havoc on road travel and causing at least one death and two injuries.

Strong winds downed trees and rattled windows in Washington State as a storm system with hurricane-force winds hit the region overnight, forcing some train cancellations and leaving nearly 600,000 customers without power as of Wednesday morning.

Thousands are now without power as the incoming Pacific storm is beginning to hit Western Washington. As of 7 p.m., Puget Sound Energy reports that over 50,408 customers are impacted by outages. Overall the state is reporting over 106,
